    Istanbul, and the strait by night

    Met at the airport and taken to the hotel. In the evening, a cruise along the Bosphorus with dinner on board, music and a folk show, and the city lit on both banks.

  2. Day 2

    The historic peninsula

    The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome with its obelisk and serpent column, then the Grand Bazaar for carpets, ceramics, spices and whatever else you are talked into. Lunch included.

  3. Day 3

    Ottoman grandeur, and two continents

    Dolmabahce Palace, the last residence of the sultans, then the Bosphorus itself: waterfront mansions, the bridges and the crossing between the European and Asian sides of the city.

  4. Day 4

    To Cappadocia

    A morning in Istanbul, then the afternoon flight to Kayseri and the drive into Cappadocia, where the hotel is cut into the rock.

  5. Day 5

    The valleys, all day

    North Cappadocia: Devrent and its rock shapes, the Zelve open-air museum, the panoramic viewpoints over Göreme and the pottery town of Avanos. Balloons go up at dawn for anyone who adds one.

    A last morning, then home

    Breakfast and time in Cappadocia before the flight to Istanbul and the connection back to Dubai.

    Istanbul, 4★ or 5★ around Taksim

    Three nights in the city. The 4★ grade is the Golden Age, Avant Garde, Metropolitan or Konak; the 5★ is the Ramada Pera, Elysium or Elite World.

  • Nights 4 and 5

    A Cappadocia cave hotel

    Two nights cut into the rock: the Heaven Cave at the 4★ grade, the Abbras or Empire Cave at 5★.
