    Colombo to Kandy, by way of the elephants

    Met at the airport and driven up to Kandy, stopping at the Pinnawala elephant orphanage and a spice garden, and finishing at the Temple of the Tooth with a Kandyan dance show.

    Into the tea

    Peradeniya botanical gardens, then up into hill country for a working tea plantation and factory, Ramboda falls and a night in Nuwara Eliya.

    Waterfalls, then the sea

    Devon and St Clair's falls, the river valley at Kitulgala, and down to the coast at Bentota.

  4. Day 4

    Turtles and mangroves

    The Kosgoda turtle hatchery and a boat safari through the Madu River mangroves, then the afternoon on the beach.

    Colombo

    Two hours up the coast to the capital: the Fort, Cinnamon Gardens, the markets at Pettah and Sea Street, the Lotus Tower and the Dutch church at Wolvendaal, with time left for shopping.
