Singapore is small, humid and improbably well organised: a city of glass towers with a rainforest in the middle of it, hawker centres holding Michelin stars, and an island theme park a cable car ride from downtown. Kuala Lumpur, four hours up the road, is the opposite temperament, louder and looser, with limestone caves and a mountain resort on its doorstep. One trip takes both, two nights in the first and three in the second.
