Mauritius is a volcano with a reef around it, which is why the water inside the lagoon is flat and the inside of the island is green and vertical. The south has waterfalls, the sacred lake and the coloured earth at Chamarel; the north has Port Louis, the market and the boats out to the islands. The food is Indian, Creole, Chinese and French at once, and so is everything else. One stay, four nights, with the island seen from both the road and the water.
